Honoring the Legacy of Mikey, Max, and Maggie

The Pawsome Squad – originally known as Mikey’s Pawsome Charity – was founded in the fall of 2019 in loving memory of Mikey, our rescue Chihuahua. After Mikey passed away in April 2019, we organized what was meant to be a one-time fundraising charity softball tournament in September of that year. To our surprise, more than 300 supporters gathered at Central Park, NYC to honor Mikey’s life and celebrate local rescue animals. Because of the overwhelming encouragement we received, what began as a single event quickly grew into something much bigger.

From Loss to Purpose

In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, the world changed – but our mission did not. We continued assisting as many local rescue organizations as possible, staying true to our commitment to help animals in need.

That same year, in September 2020, our beloved Max – our first and oldest rescue – also passed away. In honor of both Mikey and Max, and their sweet sister Maggie (who is still living her best life today), we renamed our organization to The Pawsome Squad (locally known as NYC Pawsome Squad). Along with this change, we strengthened and expanded our mission to serve even more rescue animals across New York.

Our Mission

The Pawsome Squad is a social impact 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of local New York rescue animals who have been abandoned, neglected, or left to fend for themselves. We provide:

  • Foster care and placement
  • Special-needs support
  • Adoption services
  • Public education and awareness
  • Community-driven rescue advocacy

Our mission is simple: to inspire more people to adopt local New York rescues and to champion the belief that every animal deserves love, safety, and a forever home.
